Basalt stone and white walls with natural accents
This beauty in New Zealand was designed by Dorrington Architects & Associates. This is what they said about the brief and design strategy for extending and improving the existing home:
“The clients liked the composition and feel of the existing house, but not its size or allocation of space. An arrangement of gabled forms linked via a veranda, providing the majority of the circulation. Our brief required flexibility for family living and a focus on entertaining. Basalt stone walls emerge from the ground and anchor the rest of the structure to the site. The house is a white painted space with accents of natural materials, basalt walls, oak panels of various colours, stainless steel and natural white stone flooring. The entry glass corridors give a sense of space and openness, flooding the house with light and bringing the green of the surroundings in, complementing the pared back colour palette.“
