This striking island home, off the Brazilian coast was designed by architects StudioMK27. The monolithic design projects seaward 8 metre, cantilevering dramatically from the mountain behind. Access is by boat only and entry to the house is first via the sandy beach and then over a metal bridge positioned over a crystal-lined reflecting pool. The lower floor accommodates the living areas while the upper storey is the sleeping quarters. The very interesting use of retracting panels of eucalyptus branches have been used to protect the bedrooms from the sun, while exposed reinforced concrete provides striking texture to the walls.
