The 'flipped' house

This is called the ‘flipped house’ because of what MCK Architects did to bring this 60’s abode into the 21st Century. They flipped the floor plan by swapping rooms for garden areas. The interiors now connect as much with the surrounding gardens as they do with the panoramic CBD views. The warm, natural palette features mainly timber and stone cladding throughout, with detailing chosen that was sensitive to the original architecture. The kitchen makes me want to cry tears of design joy, with the organic shaped concrete bench contrasting sublimely against the timber. The Tom Dixon pendant lights belong beautifully here. Another beautiful feature of this home is the way the bathroom opens up into the garden.[Photography by Willem Rethmeier]
