Apartment living with all the mod cons
Today we are talking apartment living with ‘empty-nesters’ and close friends Julie Marsh and Alison Simcoe. Both followed the recent trend towards down-sizing, moving from large family homes to apartment living with their husbands.
‘I love being able to just close the door behind us and go travelling, knowing the place doesn’t need looking after’ says Julie. “That was the whole idea: having a simply lifestyle that’s free from maintenance’.
How did they condense a lifetime of possessions into such a small space? ‘Easy’ says Alison. ‘We got rid of most of it! There didn’t seem much point hanging on to all the clutter. It was the start of a new era for Pete and I so we only kept the bare minimum.’
Both women seemed to relish the modern finishes and appliances the new apartment living offered. ‘I have a smaller kitchen now but its so much better designed than my old kitchen’ says Julie. ‘The streamlined appliances like the Dishdrawer by Fisher & Paykel just looks like another drawer and the easy-to-clean surfaces mean I can keep the kitchen clean and un-cluttered with no fuss at all. It frees up my time to live the way I want to and keeps things easy for when the kids and grandkids come over for dinner.’
