Architecture embracing the trees

By Kim McFayden 9 years ago

This architecture is a jaw-dropper. The ingenious Guatemalan design by Paz Architects was born from a desire to preserve the trees on the site and involved integrating the forest into the house itself so the trees interact with the living space and provide columns for the structure of the architecture. Exposed concrete and timber formwork are the main structural components, chosen to integrate and complement the textures of the forest. The undergrowth of the forest landscape has even been continued inside the house, underneath the stairwell and around the base of the trees.
